Established in 1961, GFD was created by a group of Canadian Funeral Directors who felt that there was a need for an independent organization to administer, invest, and report on prepaid funeral service funds. As well, to provide funding options and services that would keep its members competitive and up to date with Federal and Provincial Legislation. And, to provide its members with the resources of a knowledgeable and dedicated staff who would assist the Canadian Funeral Director with the day-to-day management of their prepaid portfolio.
As a not for profit, self funded, fraternal organization, GFD has a Board of Directors consisting of twelve volunteer licensed Funeral Directors who are in tune with the changing needs of the Canadian Funeral Profession. These Directors dedicate their time to developing products, services and benefits that membership in GFD has to offer.
