Pre-Arrangement

What does a pre-arrangement offer me and my loved ones?

  • Competitive Growth Rates
  • Tax Benefits
  • Funds guaranteed to be safe and secure
  • Wise financial and estate planning
  • Peace and comfort

PRE-ARRANGING your funeral ensures that you get the commemorative service you want and is a sound financial investment.

Rate of Return

A pre-paid contract always earns interest. The interest earned on the fully paid contract is designed to offset the cost of inflation. If the interest earned exceeds the rate of inflation, the excess funds go back to a beneficiary or estate.  Investing in these convenient financial products helps to reduce the emotional overspending and overall stress on loved ones in a time of special need.

Tax Benefits

Any interest earned on the principal amount (contracted funeral value) is tax exempt for the life of the contract until it is redeemed at the time of funeral.  This tax exemption is available for contracted funeral services under $15,000, cemetery services under $20,000 or a combined total of $35,000 for both funeral and cemetery services. Certain insurance funding vehicles offer the purchaser of the policy to name an individual(s) to receive any excess funds not used in the at-need funeral arrangement, tax free.

Security of Funds

All pre-paid funeral contracts in Ontario are governed by provincial regulation and monitored by the Board of Funeral Services. When you invest in a funeral pre-arrangement, the funds are registered under your name and only redeemed with interest earned at the time of the funeral or at your written request. If your pre-arrangement is funded by a Trust product, your funds are protected and guaranteed by the Canadian Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC www.cdic.ca), or by the Deposit Insurance Corporation of Ontario (DICO www.dico.com). If it is funded by Insurance or Annuity, Assuris (www.assuris.ca) guarantees and protects your money.

Financial and Estate Planning

Just as people plan for their children’s education or retirement, pre-planning a funeral is smart financial planning. It not only saves loved ones the emotional stress of making business decisions at a time of special need, but it also relieves them of the financial stress of paying for a funeral.

Peace and Comfort

Pre-planning provides the comfort of comparative shopping to ensure the price is right. It gives you the comfort of choosing the style with which you want to be memorialized. Contacting a licensed funeral professional will allow you to discuss all the details in an atmosphere of calm and in an environment that is conducive for making a wise decision.
